Carson Valley Health Is First Level IV Trauma Center in Carson City
Nevada has never had a Level IV Trauma Center before, and now there’s one right in our back yard. In November 2025, Carson Valley Health was officially recognized as the first Level IV Trauma Center in Carson City — and we can’t be more excited!
The designation was enabled by Assembly Bill 325 (AB 325), sponsored by Assemblyman Dr. Gregory Koenig (R-Fallon), and passed during the 2025 legislative session. CVH was approved for its Level IV distinction after a formal site visit by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s EMS program.
Carson Valley Health marked the amazing achievement with an on-site recognition event, where the official designation letter and certificate was presented. It was attended by state officials and media. You can watch the press release on CVH’s website.
What Is a Level IV Trauma Center?
As you might expect, it takes a lot to become the first Level IV Trauma Center in Carson City — especially considering there are only five levels. Here’s what’s required to reach Level IV according to the American Trauma Society:
- Basic emergency department facilities to implement ATLS protocols and 24-hour laboratory coverage. Available trauma nurse(s) and physicians available upon patient arrival.
- May provide surgery and critical-care services if available.
- Has developed transfer agreements for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.
- Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program.
- Involved with prevention efforts and must have an active outreach program for its referring communities.
