Industry giants Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health have joined forces to create Kaiser Permanente Nevada. Their shared goal is to offer quality- and value-focused health coverage to Northern Nevada, and they expect to begin operations starting in 2026. Here’s what you need to know.
A Joint Venture Between Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health
Renown Health is one of the leading health systems in Nevada and has operated a Northern Nevada-based, not-for-profit health insurance branch called Hometown Health since 1988.
With this joint venture, Kaiser Permanente, a national not-for-profit Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), will acquire a majority interest in Hometown Health, helping them expand their offerings and bring more benefits and accessibility to Nevadans under the banner of Kaiser Permanente Nevada.
“We are pleased to introduce this relationship in Nevada,” says Brian Erling, president and CEO of Renown Health. “This collaboration strengthens our ability to keep care local, while bringing the scale, expertise, and innovation of a national leader.”
Greg A. Adams, chair and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, adds, “Our mission calls us to bring high-quality, affordable health care and coverage to as many people as we can. Working with the leading healthcare provider in northern Nevada, we will now have the opportunity to care for more people, help more employers offer coverage to their employees, and in collaboration with Renown Health, improve the health of this growing community.”
This joint venture into Kaiser Permanente Nevada is very exciting for Northern Nevada and could bring more affordable coverage for both employers and residents in 2026, pending regulatory approval.
Planning Ahead
The most obvious upcoming change with the introduction of Kaiser Permanente Nevada is coverage expansion. The new entity will offer additional health plan coverage options to employers and residents in Northern Nevada.
In addition to the coverage expansion, Kaiser Permanente Nevada plans to open new facilities in the area with a multispecialty ambulatory health system in central and northern Reno, including diagnostic, pharmacy, and ancillary services.
Since Kaiser Permanente will acquire majority interest in Hometown Health, they will also take control of the existing infrastructure, including the Del Monte Senior Care Plus Clinic in Reno.
If you currently rely on Hometown Health for care, don’t worry; there won’t be any immediate changes to existing plans or facilities. Current Hometown Health and Senior Care Plus plans, networks, and contacts will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.
How to Enroll in Kaiser Permanente Nevada Plans
Once approved, Kaiser Permanente Nevada will begin offering plans starting with open enrollment in 2026 — which lasts between November 1, 2025, through January 15, 2026. During that time, you may browse and sign up for a health insurance plan through the new Kaiser Permanente Nevada.
