The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has officially released the 2026-2031 Southern Nevada Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). This new Southern Nevada Health District Community Health Plan was developed with input from nearly 200 community members and is a 5-year strategy designed to enhance public health outcomes in Clark County. Here’s what you should know.
Southern Nevada CHIP Key Priorities
The updated Southern Nevada Health District Community Health Plan focuses on four main areas to improve community health. These priorities are based on the main healthcare issues identified by people in the area.
- Access to Care: Making it easier to get healthcare services, addressing disparities, lack of insurance coverage, and provider availability.
- Chronic Disease Management: Early detection, prevention, and management of long-term diseases and illnesses to reduce the burden of chronic conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
- Funding: Securing resources to support public health programs, such as disease prevention, emergency preparedness, access to care, and health education.
- Transportation: Improving access to healthcare services through better and more efficient transportation options.
According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, 84.3% of adults in Clark County have health insurance in 2023, which is lower than the state average of 85.4% and the national average of 89%. Hypertension is also more prevalent in Clark County, while public health and prevention efforts account for only about 3% of total U.S. health spending.
Dr. Cassius Lockett, the District Health Officer for SNHD, states “The Community Health Improvement Plan reflects a shared commitment to addressing the issues that have the greatest impact on health across Southern Nevada.”
Southern Nevada Health District Community Health Plan Development and Implementation
The Southern Nevada Health District Community Health Plan was developed over a year-long process that involved community partners, government agencies, and stakeholders following the community health assessment. Together, they came up with the goal to create a collaborative framework for measurable improvements in Southern Nevada’s health landscape.
Planning for the SNHD Community Health Plan began in April 2025, with implementations starting in 2026 and running through 2031. This five-year health plan serves as a roadmap to improve health equity and access to resources for residents throughout the region.
