Individual Health Plans in Nevada
An individual health plan is a type of medical insurance policy that you would purchase on your own for yourself or your family. Generally, these plans are for anyone without insurance and are under the age of 65. If you are over 65, then you are eligible for a Nevada Medicare policy. Individual health plans in Nevada are fully insured major medical policies that are in complete compliance with the Affordable Care Act. These plans are available to everyone and do not ask health questions while covering all preexisting conditions. Although, there are limitations on when you can enroll.
Open Enrollment
The Open Enrollment period starts on November 1st and ends on December 15th every year. During this time, anyone can enroll or change plans freely. Any new policy or change will take effect on January 1st of the following year. This is the best time to evaluate your health situation as well as your budget for the future. You may want to consider buying up to a higher benefit plan if you know you will have a medical procedure the following year. You could also go down to a lower costing option if you feel your current plan is providing unnecessary coverage. Regardless of your situation, it is very important you get an application in during this time. You will not be able to enroll in a Reno health insurance plan during the year without a qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Event
To enroll in individual health plans in Nevada mid-year, you will need to have experienced a life event first. Qualifying events include losing coverage involuntarily, moving to a new state, birth of a child, getting married, and other specific events. If you experience one of these events, it is important you get in touch with a health insurance broker, such as our office, right away. You will only have 60 days from the date of your event to apply. If you miss this window, you may have to wait until the following year to get health coverage.
