Northern Nevada Medicare

Nevada Medicare

Signing up for Northern Nevada Medicare is a multi-step process.  In addition to being multi-step, there are multiple options when it comes to the plan types that are available. Here in Northern Nevada, eligibility for Part A begins when a person turns 65. There are no fees associated as long as the person has worked for at least 40 quarters here in the United States.  Part B eligibility begins three months before a person’s 65th birthday.  Unlike Part A, Part B will come with a monthly premium. Original Medicare covers roughly 80% of the cost of health insurance.  The balance is up to the beneficiary.

Additional Options

Once a person is enrolled in Parts A and B he or she becomes eligible to sign up for additional coverage which will cover the remaining 20% which Original Medicare does not cover.  Signing up for a Medicare advantage plan will ensure that a person is not stuck with the additional 20% of a medical bill. There are distinct differences between these two options.

Medicare Advantage

Here in Nevada, there are two local insurance companies that offer a Medicare Advantage plan.  If you call into our office we will be more than happy to go into more detail about each of these local options.  Both plans do you a zero premium option plan, and that can also include ancillary benefits such as vision and dental coverage.  Medicare Advantage is a great option for those folks who maybe do not travel much or are on a fixed income.

Medicare Supplement

The option for a Medicare Supplement plan is an option that is available to anyone who is turning 65. Signing up at 65 is what I recommend. That is not the case if you decide at a later date to sign up for a Supplement plan.  That is why it is a good idea to sign up for a Supplement plan when turning 65.  However, unlike the Advantage plan, the Supplement does come with a monthly premium.
