Group Health Insurance Companies
Individuals and families were faced with a decrease in insurance options a couple of years ago. Although, the number of group health insurance companies has remained the same. Insurance companies did not experience the same instability in the group market as they did for individuals. The move left only three companies offering plans for individuals and families. A total of six choices still remain in the group market in Nevada.
Nevada Based Insurance
Of the six major companies offering health insurance Nevada plans, three are Nevada specific with each one having some small differences. Health Plan of Nevada is a popular option in Vegas. This is due to the size of their doctor list in the southern area of the state. While the name may suggest a Nevada grown company, they are actually owned by United Health Care. United is the largest health insurance company and one of the largest corporations in the United States. Prominence Health Plan is another insurance company that has headquarters in Nevada. They are the only one of the three that are not offering individual policies and only exist in the group market. The final company is Hometown Health. Hometown’s headquarters is in Reno and they have the largest network in Northern Nevada. They are also the only company offering individual PPO plans to Northern Nevada residents.
National Insurance Companies
The other three companies are nationwide and only offer health insurance small business plans in Nevada. They include United, Anthem, and Aetna. Although these companies will not have as many doctors available locally, they do have a larger nationwide network. This means you will have an easier time finding a doctor or specialist if you are outside of Nevada. Although, it should be noted that emergency situations are always covered by qualified health plans. This is the case whether or not you have a national network. If you have an emergency situation and are out of your service area, you can still seek the nearest help and your insurance will cover it.
