Have you experienced long wait times at the doctor in Nevada? We have a solution for you! For years, people with health insurance policies in Reno have had difficulty finding available doctors. With people moving to Nevada every day, it seems like there aren’t enough doctors for our growing community. In the next few years, there will be a new hospital built on the south end of town in Reno. The hospital will be the sister hospital to Northern Nevada Medical Center. While we wait for the new hospital, people will need to shop for specific plans to avoid long wait times at the doctor in Nevada. Ultimately, it will be best to search for plans with large network lists so you have more doctors to choose from.
Individual and Family Plans
There are not many options left in the individual and family market. In 2019, there are three total insurance companies available in Northern Nevada: Health Plan of Nevada, Ambetter (Silver Summit), and Hometown Health. Depending on what county you live in, you may only have 1 insurance company available as an option. Choosing the right insurance company can be difficult, especially when trying to avoid long wait times at the doctor in Nevada. Ultimately, we recommend that you choose a PPO plan, which will give you access to significantly more doctors. As of today, Hometown Health is the only insurance company to offer PPO plans in Nevada for individuals and families.
If you are enrolled in a different carrier and need to switch to a PPO plan, there are ways of changing policies mid year after Open Enrollment. Even if you do not have a Qualifying Life Event, we can help you enroll in a new insurance company! One of our brokers can help you understand your options at no cost to you.
Medicare Plans
There are two different types of Medicare Plans. There are Part C Medicare Advantage Plans and Medigap Plans. If you are trying to avoid long wait times at the doctor in Nevada, we recommend enrolling in a Medigap plan. Medigap plans include a nationwide network list with many more doctors compared to Part C Medicare Advantage Plans.
There is no Open Enrollment Period for Medigap Plans. If you are over the age of 65 and have both Part A and Part B, you can enroll in a Medigap plan at any time of the year! If you want to see quotes for Medigap plans, please click here.
Employer Plans
If you are a business owner, we recommend starting a group health plan. There are many insurance companies available with PPO plans, giving you access to large lists of providers across the nation. Offering Group Plans will also help your employees avoid long wait times at the doctor in Nevada.
Group plans can be started at any time of year. Depending on your eligibility, you may qualify for the newly approved Association Plans in Nevada which has lower rates, great benefits, and large network lists. If you want to learn more and see quotes for your business, please click here.
