Health Insurance Exchange Still Open

Do you know that insurance companies offer plans that are not available through the Nevada Health Insurance Exchange?

There are more health insurance plans available off-exchange than through the Nevada HealthLink Insurance Exchange.

To break it down:

Today, there are 5 companies that offer plans within the Insurance Exchange quoting system. These companies include the Health Plan of Nevada, Prominence Health Plans, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Nevada Co-Op, and Assurant.

Those companies offering plans outside of the Nevada Exchange include Aetna, Humana, Sierra Health and Life, Golden Rule, and Hometown Health Plan. In addition, Health Plan of Nevada, Assurant, and the Nevada Co-Op offer different health plans. These plans are not available on the Nevada Insurance Exchange.

Four out of five companies in the Nevada Insurance Exchange offer HMO plans only. Although Assurant offers only PPO plans in this year’s Nevada Insurance Exchange. The lowest priced plans in the Exchange are all HMO plans.

HMO plans require the use of a primary care doctor for all members. This also includes a limited list of specialists and facilities. PPO plans let the insured member visit any one of their contracted doctors, without a referral. When a medical need arises the plans normally have a broad list of specialists and facilities.

Most applicants for plans available outside of the Exchange include those not eligible for a premium subsidy.  Only plans applied for through www.healthcare.gov  (and included in the Nevada Insurance Exchange). They are also eligible for the APTC ( Advanced Premium Tax Credit) based on income.

If you would like to have more of a selection of plans not offered through www.healthcare.gov, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
