Moving to Nevada on Medicare Advantage

Moving to Nevada on Medicare Advantage will require that you change plans.  Have you recently moved to the Reno/Sparks area? If you are planning on or have already moved to Nevada we recommended that you change Medicare plans.  It is important to make this change right away so you will have access to local providers here in Northern Nevada.  Before making that change it is important to talk with a licensed health insurance broker.  One who can explain the different plans that are available here in Northern Nevada, and Reno more specifically.

Qualifying Life Event

Normally, a person can not change Medicare Advantage plans midyear unless they experience what is known as a Qualifying Life Event, or a QLE.  Moving to a new state qualifies as a QLE.  Without a QLE a person would have to wait until the Annual Enrollment Period or AEP, to change their MA plan.  The AEP starts on October 15th and runs through December 7th.  Making a move like this opens up what is known as a Special Enrollment Period or SEP. If you make an interstate move then you can change plans within 60 days of moving.  That is why it is so important to talk to a licensed broker either before you make the move or as soon as you arrive here in Nevada.

Call an Expert

Once you know you qualify for a QLE it is very important to speak with a licensed health insurance broker.  Medicare Advantage is confusing for many people so speaking with a professional will make the transition much less stressful.  Here at Health Benefits associates, we have 7 licensed brokers who are a phone call away from simplifying the process of finding a new plan.  Moving is stressful enough without having to worry about changing Medicare plans.

In Closing

To summarize this process and moving to Nevada on Medicare you’ll want to remember three things. The first is when are you moving and remembering the 60-day rule of changing plans once you have moved. The second item to remember is the dates of AEP.  If you have already moved and missed out on that 60-day window to change plans due to your QLE.  And finally, the third item is to talk to a professional that knows the ins and outs of Medicare. Please give one of us a call her at Health Benefits Associates and let us take at least one stressful thing off of your plate during what can be a very hectic process.
