More Nevadan’s completed their health insurance applications during the first 30 days of this year’s Preliminary Open Enrollment than they had during last years entire 6 months Open Enrollment period.
According to the December Open Enrollment Report just released by the Department of Health and Human Services. This report reflects applications completed and Preliminary Open Enrollment plan. Nevadan’s made these selections between November 15th and December 15th, 2014.
The Enrollment Report let us know that 40,737 Nevadan’s completed an application, and 40,285 selected a 2015 Marketplace plan. 90% of the 40,285 people that selected a plan in Nevada have been determined to be eligible for Financial Assistance.
Nevada is one of these three states.
Along with Oregon and New Mexico, that are classified as State-Based Exchanges ( SBM’s ) using the Healthcare.gov platform. A total of 34 states use the entire Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM). 13 states are classified as State-Based Exchanges (SBM’s) while using their own Marketplace Platforms.
The December Open Enrollment Report goes on to state that over 4,000,000 individuals have made an application. Or they have also re-enrolled for new 2015 Marketplace plans. Of these nationally, 56% have been female, 44% have been male, 52% have been classed as re-enrollments, and 48%have been reflected as new consumers. Nevadan’s are therefore 48% of the new consumer total. This is because we must make new applications on the Healthcare.gov site for 2015 plans and subsidies.
One surprising statistic from the December Enrollment Report is that 28% of all applicants made their Marketplace plan selection between December 12th and December 15th, the last three days of this year’s Open Enrollment period that assured a January 1st, 2015, effective date. This year’s Open Enrollment is still open. Therefore, individuals making application between now and January 15th have a February 1st effective date for their 2015 Marketplace health plan.
