Since November 15, 2014, Nevadans have been enrolling in subsidized health insurance through HealthCare.Gov for the upcoming 2015 plan year.
Based on specific income and employment requirements, Nevadans are able to enroll in Qualified Health Plans with reduced premiums as well as increased member benefits. With 2015 right around the corner, members are seeking guidance on the new payment requirements for subsidized health insurance. Per a recent Silver State Exchange press release, all of the participating Exchange Carriers have extended their payment deadlines. This is to allow new enrollees to sign up for January coverage.
Of the participating insurance companies in HealthCare.Gov for Nevada, the Nevada Co-Op, Prominence Health Plan, Assurant Health Plans, and Anthem Blue Cross / Blue Shield opted for an initial payment deadline of December 31, 2014, for coverage starting January 1, 2015. Therefore, if you enrolled in a Health Plan of Nevada policy starting at the beginning of 2015, the payment deadline will be January 15, 2015. This was confirmed by the Silver State Exchange.
After the initial premium payment, then the exchange imposes a 90 day grace period for subsidized insurance policies. As a member enrolling for coverage starting January 1, the most important payment deadline is the first payment. This is because it begins the coverage. Insurance carriers will delay coverage effective dates by an entire calendar month if the initial payment is not timely.
