Get Your Open Enrollment Completed Early to Avoid Stress

Nevada Open Enrollment Game Plan

The 4th quarter Nevada open enrollment period can be a stressful time for many people. Switching plans, shopping around, and figuring out which of your benefits changed can be very difficult. But it doesn’t have to be! You can work with a no-cost health insurance broker, such as our office, to find the right plan for you. Most of our clients finish their open enrollment selections in the first week after we have provided them with the information they need to make a selection. Since we are contracted with every Nevada health insurance company, we can give you an honest and unbiased opinion on your policy. Below are some things you should check off and look out for during open enrollment.

Check You Doctor List

Before switching plans, make sure your doctors are in-network. Whether you are an individual enrolling yourself or your family, Medicare eligible, or you are a group/business plan, you will want to make sure your doctors either accept the PPO or HMO plan you are enrolling in. Each coverage option is different and giving our office a call will clear up exactly who you can go see on any prospective plan.

Don’t Forget Your Timing

The individual open enrollment period runs from November 1st to December 15th. During this time, you can enroll in a plan that starts on January 1st of the following year. You can get quotes for these plans on our individual and family page.

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15th to December 7th. You can sign up for Medicare Advantage plans or switch your Advantage plan during this time. You can also switch Part D drug plans. If you have a Medicare Supplement plan, you do not need to do anything to continue your coverage. Although, you should still shop around for Advantage plans to see if you might want to change.

For small groups and businesses, you will generally want to start shopping around for new plans a few months prior to your renewal date. Since groups can start and renew at any time during the year, there is no set open enrollment date. Our office can provide you with a multitude of tools and assistance to get you and your employees on the right plan in a timely manner. We can take a significant amount of work off of your plate for no extra costs or fees. You can quote small group plans by following that link.

Avoid Scammer Calls and Offers Too Good to Be True

You may see advertisements or receive phone calls from someone trying to sign you for a plan that sounds like a great deal. Many times these plans end up not being a health insurance plan or automatically terminate your current coverage. You will have a hard time calling these companies back as they will usually route your call to an offshore call center designed to give you the runaround.

A tried and true method for avoiding this is to speak to a local broker. We operate right here in Reno and can provide you with face to face consultation as well as phone and online meetings. You can have confidence knowing that we are a local, reputable company designed to help you find the best policy for your needs.
