Fortunately, a few local insurance companies are solving the problem with new facilities around town. Hometown Health is a local insurance company owned by Renown. Prominence Health Plan is a local insurance company owned by UHS, a large company who also owns Northern Nevada Medical Center. As the only two local health insurance companies in Northern Nevada, they are adding new facilities to reduce the wait time at the doctor.

New Renown Urgent Care
In Washoe County, we have seen many new Renown facilities around town. Renown is now looking to expand their facilities in the Carson City and Douglas County region. Renown recently opened a new Urgent Care in North Carson to help patients reduce the wait time at the doctor. However, like any other urgent care this facility does not treat Emergency Situations. Therefore If you are dealing with a true Emergency, please visit the nearest Emergency Room.
The hours of operation for the new Renown Urgent Care are:
Mon-Fri – 8am – 7pm
Sat-Sun – 9am- 5pm

Prominence Care Centers
You can reduce the wait time at the doctor by going to the newly constructed Prominence Care Centers. Also these Care Centers are available to Medicare Advantage Members and some Large Employers enrolled through Prominence. Currently, there are two locations for the Prominence Care Centers:

The hours of operation at both facilities are:
- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
- Tuesday, Thursday: 8:30am – 6:00pm
Prominence Freestanding Emergency Room
Over by the Walmart on McCarran in Northwest Reno, there is a new Freestanding Emergency Room. This Freestanding Emergency Room is in partnership with Northern Nevada Medical Center and owned by UHS. Since the Emergency Room is not connected to a Hospital, you should have a shorter wait time at the doctor. It is also open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Also they are equipped to treat patients with minor illnesses, injuries, and those who require a higher level of emergency care. This Freestanding Facility will provide medical treatment for the following conditions:
- Abdominal pain
- Asthma
- Chest Pain
- Pneumonia
- Respiratory distress
- Allergic reactions
- Broken bones
- Flu
- Rashes
- Serious infections
Furthermore, there are 6 treatment rooms, 24/7 lab services, and diagnostic imaging (x-rays, CT, and Ultrasound).
